It’s a Miracle! AI has done a good deed. John Lennon’s voice, refreshed with AI technology from a tinny demo tape, has been reunited with the rest of the Fab Four… including George Harrison who is also gone. And it’s not the weak entry that “Free as a Bird” was, despite the remaining members’ best efforts.

AI serves us well sometimes.

George Harrison counted in, and then solemn piano chords served as a prelude to John Lennon’s wistful melody. Time, as always, built around Ringo’s insistent drumbeat. Some stabbing strings added to the equation, with backing vocals by George, Paul, and Ringo. And the chorus resounded:

“Now and then, I miss you…”

It’s a four-minute, eight-second seance, a new recording that connects with the past. History’s most unforgettable band, half of which is deceased, is reunited for our pleasure. AI served us well, though many refuse to be calmed from their fears of its over-arching influence.

But “Now and Then” became a new addition to the Beatles’ lore and their catalog of rock songs. Beatlmaniacs like me are thrilled!

Along with tambourine, electric harpsichord and other instruments in the credits are ‘machine learning’ and ‘source separation.’ These are the algorithmic equivalent of art restorers clearing the grunge off a Michelangelo fresco. And, Giles Martin, son of the Beatles’ legendary key arranger and architect of their sound, was the catalyst for the magic.

The son serves the Beatles as well as his father did.

Have you been to the Beatles’ Cirque version, “Love”, in Las Vegas? I’ve seen it twice. It’s a rock-and-roll circus of stunts and amazing stuff synched with the music. It’s a tour de force tribute, orchestrated by Giles Martin.

As you know, music rocks my soul and soothes my spirit. It puts a spring in my step and moves me to dance and shake my booty.  The newly released Beatles tune, however, is a ballad. Listen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW55J2zE3N4
