What does one say in the face of full charm, a woman met serendipitously after she and one of my clients casually flirted when he trotted past her office window alongside his mom. To-and-from his therapy sessions with me. The woman in the photo is me, working the magic of speech-language pathology with the tyke.

It was a dozen years ago and yet we’ve hung on. Through job loss and poorer, in sickness and health. Caring and sharing, whether physically together or merely in mind meld.

Her smile is a 250 watt lightbulb, never dimming, never wavering, no matter how tangled and dark the circumstance. I have no pictures of her to post – we’re too engaged in listening to each other when we meet, so there’s no selfie to share. It’s selfless time, for each other. Being there.

But she’s angelic in looks, intent, thought, word, and deed:

Resilient, expressive, affectionate, reserved in judgment, equable, kind.

Gentle, discerning, free-spirited, feline. God-blessed spirit and wholesome good nature.

Blessed with good timing and open pores to sense all. Whimsical to the core – she doesn’t take herself too seriously. What’s that for?

Arms spread wide to welcome all, especially those with battered spirits, who need to be enthralled. Life is worth it, worth living and giving. Each day. Stalwart friend, heart-to-heart. Sister Suzi is a miracle to me.
