My husband and I have no social agenda except to have and be a “nice time”.

“Nice time” = It was Larry’s frequent phrase and I instantly ascribed.

When we converted ourselves to California-ism, it became easier to achieve: our new state offered increased choices for leisure. Weather cooperated to not rain on anyone’s parade. Any and every time. Weather was a trusted friend.

There was no cause for carping and gripes.

Yet, when we converted ourselves to California-ism a nice time became tougher: our new state’s overwhelming choices apparently eliminated people’s need to focus and r.s.v.p. The weather’s constancy caused respect for its forces to lapse.

In the farm-based communities we were from, conversation always started with weather. A commonality for joy or for complaint. The weather was always around.

Californians didn’t talk about the weather. Even the tv weathermen had to entertain with colorful charts, colorful ties, colorful standing around… So people sought alternate sources to generate conversation –  and found FOX.

Holy crap; holy carp!

Round and round and round people loop, using outside voices to contribute best-hidden inner thoughts. Not a merry-go-round 🙁

The agenda is thunder, lightning, and sparks. It’s antithetical to “nice time”, the rule of our house. Diatribe is not dialogue and angriness poisons the air.

It ain’t social, folks.

After six years of forbearance, gently and persistently establishing rules of civility and decorum in OUR HOUSE, we’ve decided that a waiver is required. In order for guests to enter our home to socialize and enjoy our food, drink, and gracious hosting, they have to sign on the line: agree to be agreeable or you’re out!

People seem unable to comport themselves, to govern or filter or make nice. We must be the parents and set the parameters and the rules. In our HOME SWEET HOME.

Our front door bespeaks our interface with the world: it’s open, yet grounded.

It’s colorful. It’s clear – and there’s a lock so that we can stay safe and steer clear.

We can easier toss those with an adverse social agenda… OUT spells out!

IT’S OUR HOUSE. IT’S OUR PEACE AND JOY HOME.
